Schenectady, N.Y. – The Schenectady JCC (SJCC) is partnering with Congregation Agudat Achim, Congregation Gates of Heaven and Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York to host its 2022 Purim Carnival. The Jewish holiday of Purim commemorates the saving of the Jewish people from persecution in the 5th century BCE’s Persian empire. The holiday is a day of celebration and retelling of the story, complete with costumes, games and treats, especially the traditional triangle shaped pastry, the hamantaschen.

On Sunday, March 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. participants who have purchased a ticket are welcome to celebrate the holiday of Purim and enjoy being outside at the JCC, participating in activities such as carnival games, mask decorating, a tie-dye station, and photo booth. Each child in attendance will receive a punch card upon entry, which will be punched at the stations or booths they go to, and at the end of the carnival they will get a goody bag filled with different items. The SJCC will offer unlimited popcorn, juice boxes, and water to those in attendance. A half a dozen hamantaschen will also be given to each family at the carnival, courtesy of the SJCC.

Along with the fun and games, the SJCC will host a raffle at the carnival. Event attendees can purchase raffle tickets in person during the carnival or can win a free raffle ticket by wearing a costume, contributing redeemable cans and bottle to the JCC, or donating canned and boxed food.

Tickets for the Purim Carnival are $18 per family, during pre-registration which takes place now through March 15, or are $20 at the door. To pre-register for the event call, 518-377-8803. Those with questions or want to learn more, should contact Judy Ben-Ami at judyb@schenectadyjcc.org.

In case of bad weather, the Purim Carnival rain date will be Sunday, March 27.
