In April, women from around the Capital District stood in silence on the State Street steps up in solidarity. The purpose was to call for peace in Ukraine.

Women Against War organized the event, and they were calling for the withdrawal of Russian troops to respect the sovereignty of Ukraine and encourage peace negotiations.

In the meantime, there have been many initiatives that were created to help Ukraine.

The East Greenbush Central School District came together to create a “Stuff a Bus” collection to support Ukrainians in need. Students were surprised to see Gov. Kathy Hochul, who arrived to help at the Howard L. Goff Middle School parking lot.

Also, the Bethlehem School District were able to collect 26 pallets of humanitarian aid from students and their families. All of the items were shipped overseas to help the people of Ukraine.
